This bathroom may be located in the Midwestern town of Downers Grove, Illinois, but when you step through the sliding wood barn door, this bathroom’s natural feel transports you to the outdoors.
The defining aspect of this bathroom is the use of natural materials such as pebbles as an accent, a wood grain porcelain tile on the floors, and a linen textured tile on the walls.
The feature shower is of the step-in variety as it was very important for this homeowner to have a place to sit as her grandchildren have a new space to bathe. We installed an exposed thermostatic showerpipe system which includes a large showerhead, a handheld sprayer, and the tub spout.
Directly across from the shower area is the large, wall-hung vanity, chosen to give the illusion of the room being more open. The countertop is made of granite which adds another natural element to the space in addition to a touch of elegance. The custom laminate vanity has a mixture of doors, drawers, and open shelving to allow for ample storage space.
Since there was no access to natural lighting, we installed LED recessed lighting in the ceiling in addition to including a large wall to wall mirror above the vanity to make the room feel more spacious as well as to reflect more light back, creating a sense of natural light. Overall, the natural materials and spa-like features create a soothing yet modern bathing space.
